THE PACHAMAMA KNOWS THE WAY

Maria Calderon, the cartographer of her own pueblita, has offered her viewers guidance through her enlarged or altered perception of Kansas City that blends contemporary local culture with Peruvian folk traditions using a variety of mediums and installation techniques. “Kansa Citta Pueblita” is on display at Urban Culture Project Space through November 6.

Scenes Real and Imagined: Judith G. Levy

Levy has cannibalized, digitized and recombined the real to create the fanciful, using images from real vintage postcards to create places that both exist and don’t, times and spaces both actual and imagined. Both work to demonstrate the idea of community as not only a collection of people who happen to live near one another, but of intentionally networked individuals who care and who understand that there is not just one culture at work in the United States.
