Postcards from Legendary Realms: Alma David Waite
Alma David Waite offers up wizards’ castles, Native American petroglyphs and sweeping land- and skyscapes. His most compelling pieces combine all three elements.
For Greyscale Waves of Grain: Daniel W. Coburn
Coburn generally favors a high-contrast approach with a deep field of clarity. Each stalk and petal stands out as though etched.
Gardens of the Mind: Mari LaCure
LaCure creates delicate, dreamlike work which seems almost to fade in and out of the paper it is printed, drawn and stitched onto. It beckons with thin line and shifting shape, whispers with soft color and organic composition … and suddenly, you look up, notice how much time has passed, and realize you’ve been pulled in.
For the Beauty of the Earth: Alec Arnold
Fabric, sculpture are pottery the arts of myth, Nature and faith, tying into everything from creation to the span of life and the cycles of capital-L Life … so it’s not surprising that ceramic artist Alec Arnold would look to the wild when creating his works.
A Sight for Sensitive Eyes: Jeromy Morris
Morris’ approach produces art that’s both well-reasoned and visceral, calming and agitating. It also raises questions and issues that can’t be solved in a two-hour TV time slot … and perhaps not in several lifetimes.
(ARTKC365) Light Mettle: Lanna Gaines
Gaines, who shares the show with her husband, Robert, favors images of nature — oil landscapes and drawings of birds, like the “Purple Wren with Seed” pictured above. Her landscapes are suffused with light (n). Her fine, deft drawing technique gives volume to the birds’ feathers, making the creatures seem so light (adj.) that one can picture them perching on a finger and then taking flight.
(ARTKC365) A Carefully Nurtured Love of Nature: Kevin Sink
Sink has spent a lot of time collaborating with the outside world; his photography career began when he was ten years old and wanted to augment his birdwatching activities. You could say, too, that Sink’s appreciation for nature — and for structure — goes all the way down to the microscopic level.
