An Ear for Art cell-phone audio guide enables SMA fans to access information about objects in the galleries simply by dialing their phone. Visitors can hear additional information about specific works by calling in and entering the corresponding prompt number, and they can provide feedback, comments and suggestions (by pressing 0#). To access the main audio guide, dial 785-338-9467 from any phone, listen to the prompts and enter the corresponding number, followed by the pound key (#). This feature is also available on the museum's Web site and was facilitated by a one-year, $12,900 grant from the Shumaker Family Foundation.

August 22, 2-4 p.m. Late Opening Time The Spencer Museum of Art usually opens at noon on Sunday but will be holding reduced hours August 22 so that staff members can attend a celebration of life for Dalton Howard, a local artist, musician, and long-time member of the museum family who recently passed away.

20/21 Gallery:
Media Memes: Images, Technology & Making the News
Photographic works drawn from the Spencer Museum's permanent collection explore shifts in the creation and distribution of visual journalism and the impact of new technologies, such as: source credibility, content accuracy, and story context, which remain significant concerns as technology alters every aspect of mass media production and consumption. A significant feature of the exhibition includes a hands-on participatory opportunity in which visitors can use Apple iMacs and iPads to engage with and consider the ways that new technologies shape image capture, selection, and distribution. Curated by Michael Williams (Associate Professor of Interactive Media, School of Journalism), with assistance from Luke Jordan (Adjunct Lecturer of Photography, Department of Design and Visiting Lecturer, Spencer Museum of Art) and Celka Straughn (Andrew W. Mellon Director of Academic Programs, Spencer Museum of Art)
