FAQ
How do I contact you?
Please send all information or inquiries to the editor, (Ms.) Tracy Abeln, at editor@ereview.org.
What is your region of coverage?
We cover the visual arts in the following states: Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Colorado. The majority of our content is focused on the greater Kansas City metropolitan area and cities and towns within a 250- to 300-mile radius.
How do I get my exhibition into the Review calendar?
Review's active calendars cover the Kansas City metropolitan area, including Lawrence, Kansas, and also as much of the rest of Kansas and Missouri as possible. We are seeking partners and interns who can keep more calendars active and are developing a new, automated and searchable calendar system in 2010.
Please send exhibition information to the editor at least two weeks before the opening date — a month's lead time is even better. Include the same information you find in the calendar: venue name and address (and website), hours open for viewing, contact phone number for viewing appointments; name of exhibition, artist(s) involved (alphabetically listed is preferred), opening reception dates and dates of other related events (such as artists' talks), and the opening and closing dates of the exhibition.
How do I get someone to review my exhibition for your publication?
Please let us know about your exhibition at least a month in advance, if possible. Our coverage depends on the availability of our freelance writers and our available funding.
Who chooses what exhibitions get covered, and what are the considerations that influence those decisions?
Our editorial staff works with an Editorial Advisory Committee to generate story ideas. Considerations when choosing content are based on timely and newsworthy regional events, seasonal trends, and the visual art events and exhibitions we have been informed about. If you have an upcoming visual art related event, please let us know.
I want visibility in Review, but I have no advertising budget. Would you consider a trade?
Review does not consider any unsolicited proposals for a barter.
I want to volunteer my services for Review. Can I?
We currently do not have an established volunteer program, but let us know if you are interested in seeing how your skills might fit in at Review. We'd love some volunteers, and we do host editorial and design interns.
I would like to intern at Review. Can I?
Review is always looking for interns in the following areas:
Graphic & Web Design — production assistance
Editorial Assistance — web publishing, calendar editing, writing
Administration — accounting, filing, records, business flow
Development — grant research, writing, management
Marketing — advertising sales, social media, other publicity
We will work with your educational institution to make sure you get credit for your internship at Review. Currently, all internships are unpaid. Please send your resume and an email of interest outlining your skills and goals to our editor to see what is available.
How can I become a contributing writer?
Review welcomes unsolicited proposals from new writers and artists for our online magazine and other projects. We employ freelance writers who have a background or strong interest in contemporary visual art and artists who would like to contribute a visual project (such as a curated slide show, video interview or other multi-media creation).
Freelance writers should send a resume and two writing samples (or links to writing samples) pertaining to visual art topics. Artists should send a resume and three or four samples of current work. Electronic formats are preferred: PDF, DOC, TXT, or OpenOffice for text files and medium resolution JPGs for image files.
Please send proposals to the editor. Visit our downloads page for a PDF version of our editorial policy and guidelines.
