The latest Lawrence Report brings highlights from Final Friday’s exhibition openings in January, along with what’s been going on this month, including what not to miss for February 25th’s Final Friday art walk downtown, such as new work by Michael Krueger and Josh Adams.

FAST PORTRAITS, NYE FINAL FRIDAY

Final Friday in December fell on New Year’s Eve for Lawrence’s galleries, and even though the coordinated gallery crawl is but a few months old, many spaces hosted exhibition openings to add to the holiday atmosphere. Here are some highlights from a month ago, as well as some previews for what to expect January 28 out on Mass Street, from Tom King and photographer Jamie Roper.

ENDING 2010 ON A WINNING STREAK

Accolades: Jeffrey Isom, Lee Piechocki, and Aaron Storck show work made possible through the area’s first round of Rocket Grants (thanks to Spencer Museum of Art and Charlotte Street Foundation, with funding from the Warhol Foundation), and Patrick Giroux, Jonathan Holley, and Emily Lawton are using their RG to continue “Johnny America;” Louis Copt is one of the 2010 recipients of the Governor’s Arts Awards; and, in nearby Lucas, Kansas, Erika Nelson’s World’s Largest Collection of the World’s Smallest Versions of the World’s Largest Things museum is featured on the December 22nd Conan O’Brien Show.
