Review

Darin M. White was immersed in the foundations of drawing before beginning his undergraduate degree in Indiana in graphic design and then switching to painting. Later, at Kansas University he proceed to change from painting/printmaking to sculpture — studying with Richard Gillespie (student of H.C. Westermann), Jon Keith Swindell, and John Hachmeister. After receiving his BFA in 1997, he started a business, continuing to produce artwork, but not showing it often. In 2007 he became the co-founder of b.a.l.m. (beauty, art & life movement) with his wife Shannon, a painter and arts advocate. Together they promote creativity and action, encouraging others in their art and understanding. In 2009 he started Hava Studios to consult artist, galleries, and museums in the production of art work, and he also began to organize, curate, and juror exhibitions. He has been involved in many group and two-person exhibitions and has a solo show slated for 2011/2012. White has received a variety of awards, scholarships, honorariums, and commissions for his work and has spoken by request at art conferences, events, and on the radio. He is a commissioner and on various sub-committees of the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission, a board member of the Downtown Lawrence Arts District, and deeply involved in the Lawrence Final Friday Art Walk events and the Lawrence, Kansas, community. He endeavors to be a creative catalyst, artist and arts advocate for both the local community and cultural at large, connecting the missing dots between the current culture and a beautiful life. As a "non writer," he hopes that readers will appreciate his straightforward approach to tell the story as he sees.
