UNDERGROUND exhibitions run for five weeks, and curators receive a stipend to execute their projects as well as administrative mentoring and assistance in promoting their shows. La Macina di San Cresci offers 10 partial funding grants to artists based on a combination of merit and need. This assistance reduces residency fees and may cover up to half the full cost of a minimum three-week residency.

Mediacy Inc., an advertising company based in New York City, is offering space on "gatescapes" — large-format, billboard-sized vinyl placed on roll-down security gates — in four-week timeframes between ad displays, for the installation of temporary public artworks. “These storefront “windows” may be used singly, or in combination – triptychs, corner wrap-arounds, or even in a series along a whole block – in locations such as 14th Street at 7th Avenue, Saint Marks between 2nd and 3rd, or the corner of 8th Avenue and 51st Street, and over 150 more to choose from.”

The Smalls, a curator of independent short film, is looking for artists for their StreetSounds competition. Filmmakers must take and credit 3 or more sounds from the Smalls’ Sound Map and use them in a film no longer than three minutes (plus one minute for credits). INTERNATIONAL PAPER GLIDER FLY-IN
The Lawrence Percolator is hosting the first Lawrence Paper Glider Fly-In
Deadline: Friday, April 9, 2010
“Glider-makers young and old are encouraged to submit one, or more, handmade paper gliders to be flown by Percolator Accredited Pilots and then exhibited in the Percolator art space. This non-competitive exposition will record flights in categories such as: Distance Flown, Time Aloft, Crash/Wreckage, Trickiest, Launching Technique, and Unusual Design. After the Fly-In, all gliders will be exhibited at the Percolator for the remaining run of the exhibition Out of Thin Air, and all flights will be documented and posted online.”

The Art & Design Gallery at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, Kansas, is seeking artist proposals for exhibitions in Fall 2010. This is a fantastic space and opportunity for emerging or established artists and designers who have a body of work ready to show or would like to create new work for this space.
Interested artists are asked to provide a CD of 20 images in .JPG or .PDF format (1 MB maximum) with a printed corresponding image list, and hard copies of a one-page proposal, detailing the relationship of the submitted images and proposed exhibition, a CV/resume, and an artist statement, to be mailed to the following address: Shannon Bybee, 1467 Jayhawk Blvd, Art & Design Building Room 300, Lawrence, KS 66045. Please describe in the proposal the relationship between the 20 images and the proposed exhibition and label the package "Attention: KU Art & Design Gallery Proposal."
The gallery will support chosen artists with postcard publicity, title cards and vinyl lettering for works, tools and hardware for typical, common installation, and gallery guards and alarmed security. (No assistance with hanging, storage before/after exhibition, shipping/travel costs, insurance or food for opening reception). Artists will be notified by May 7, 2010, for exhibitions in fall 2010.
