FAQ
How do I contact you?
Please send all information or inquiries to the editor, (Ms.) Tracy Abeln, at editor@ereview.org.
What is your region of coverage?
We cover the visual arts in the following states: Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Colorado. The majority of our content is focused on the greater Kansas City metropolitan area and cities and towns within a 250- to 300-mile radius.
How do I get my exhibition into the Review calendar?
Review's active calendars cover the Kansas City metropolitan area, including Lawrence, Kansas, and also the major venues and others in the region listed above.
Please send exhibition information to the editor at least two weeks before the opening date — a month's lead time is even better. Include the same information you find in the calendar: venue name and address (and website), hours open for viewing, contact phone number for viewing appointments, the name of the exhibition, artist(s) involved (alphabetically listed is preferred), opening reception dates and dates of other related events (such as artists' talks), and the opening and closing dates of the exhibition. Additional information is welcomed and encouraged, such as artists' statements/websites/contact information, and JGP file images with corresponding identification (title, media, dimensions, year, and image/photo credit, if applicable).
How do I get someone to review my exhibition for your publication?
Please let us know about your exhibition at least a month in advance, if possible. Our coverage is based on relevance, significance, and timeliness, but also depends on the availability of our freelance writers and on our available funding.
Who chooses what exhibitions get covered, and what are the considerations that influence those decisions?
Our editorial staff works with an Editorial Advisory Committee to generate story ideas. Considerations when choosing content are based on timely and newsworthy regional events, seasonal trends, and the visual art events and exhibitions we have been informed about. If you have an upcoming visual art related event, please let us know.
I want visibility in Review, but I have no advertising budget. Would you consider a trade?
Trades (such as ad-swaps with related publications) are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for more information.
I want to volunteer my services for Review. Can I?
Yes, always. There is no formal volunteer program, but let us know if you are interested in seeing how your skills might fit in at Review. We'd love some volunteers, and we do frequently host editorial and design interns.
I would like to intern at Review. Can I?
Review accepts interns in the following areas:
Graphic & Web Design — production assistance
Editorial Assistance — web publishing, calendar editing, writing
Administration — accounting, filing, records, business flow
Development — grant research, writing, management
Marketing — advertising sales, social media, other publicity
We will work with your educational institution to make sure you get credit for your internship at Review. Currently, all internships are unpaid. Please send your resume and an email of interest outlining your skills and goals to our editor to see what is available.
How can I become a contributing writer or artist?
Review welcomes unsolicited proposals from new writers and artists for our online magazine and other projects, from the college- through professional-level. We employ freelance writers who have a background or strong interest in contemporary visual art (and journalists with strong skills who have experience in news and/or feature writing) and artists who would like to contribute a visual project (such as a curated slide show, video interview, or other multi-media creation).
Writers should send a letter of interest with a summary of qualifications; resumes and two writing samples (or links to writing samples) pertaining to visual art topics are preferred and help speed up the process.
Artists should send a resume and three or four samples of current work. Electronic formats are preferred: PDF, DOC, TXT, or OpenOffice for text files and medium resolution JPGs for image files.
Please send proposals to the editor. For a copy of our current editorial policy (company mission/vision/history, copyright and ethics policy, etc.), please click here.
Additional submission guidelines/considerations can be downloaded here.
The editor is happy to send a copy of writing guidelines in PDF or DOC form to potential or interested writers.
