"Rhei is a research studio designed to reallocate surpluses between the field of contemporary art and other industries. Starting with a problem, Rhei's team of interdisciplinary artists and theorists produce a unique document or composition consisting of images, texts, videos, and audio. Rhei's approach is to poetically upend the conditions of the problem, thereby opening up space for new possibilities. Rhei's compositions do not contain solutions, but rather offer original contexts from which to proceed."

MargoKren_ChapelBox

Margo Kren, "Argos," oil on linen, 5' x 4', 1998. From the artist: "In the summer of 1998 I traveled to Greece for my own Odyssey around the islands — to see the ancient murals, sculptures, and vases of Mikonos, Koronos, and Santorini. Then I rented a car and I went upon the Peloponnesus and into the mountains and circled around the mainland going into Greek villages of Tripoli, Pylos, Katamata, Argos, Patra, Steno, Sparti, Korinthos, and Megalopolis. Later these names of villages became the titles of my paintings. I discovered everywhere the Greek chapel boxes used to invoke the saint — alongside the roads, near lake sides, and in the center of parking lots! These are by no means small boxes but can be up to eight feet tall. There were no kits for these ornate shrines but instead they were made of found objects and came straight from the heart." Working for clients like McGraw Hill Publishing and "The New York Times," Fitzgerald has not had a solo exhibition in more than 20 years.
