On the most excellent Whose Line Is It Anyway? (both the US and earlier UK versions, if memory serves), there was a recurring improv game in which that week's funny people were given a snippet of a "foreign film" and told to improvise their own dialogue.

The results were mixed, comedically, depending on a given week's roster of comics ... but overall, it was a lot of fun.

Cameron Gee's photography show at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center isn't aimed at the funny bone, but the title of the exhibition makes it irresistible to the imagination.

That title: A New Film by Cameron Gee. Suddenly, a collection of black-and-white portraits is more than that: It's a collection of film stills ... and we the viewers get to make up the story and its subplots.

(And because stills record or recreate significant moments, each shot becomes weighted with even more importance.)

Gee's style is straightforward and clear of focus, dramatic but not overly so and reportorial without losing its artistic sensibilities. And given the wide range of subjects (and states of dress) in this collection, and the focus on the human face in all its expressiveness, this film is clearly character-driven ... and each character clearly has a significant role to play.

Take the young man atop this post, his eyes downcast and his face sporting several days' worth of stubble. He's clearly ____________, involved with _____________ (but secretly ___________), and overwhelmed with _____________ because of it.

Then again, maybe he's just ___________.

You get to fill in the blanks. And if your answer differs from the next person's, so much the better. They're Gee's images, after all, but the lines?

They're all yours.
