Much will undoubtedly be written by others, on this site and others, about James Woodfill's installation Fragments at the Review Studios Exhibition Space.

That's as it should be. Woodfill has created a significant, challenging and rewarding installation, one worth repeated visits if you can manage them — or at the very least, an extended single viewing. And with that in mind, ARTKC365 offers a 12-step plan for exploring the sow.:

1. See the whole thing, starting and finishing wherever the mood takes you.

2. Go back into the hallway and notice where the show really starts. Repeat Step 1.

3. Notice the repeating elements, especially the dominant (and complementary) colors.

4. Go back into the hallway. This time, start toward the left and work your way all around the show.

5. Repeat Step 4, only in the opposite direction. Note any differences in perception.

6. Look behind things.

7. Look into things.

8. Play with shadows and listen to sounds.

9. Consider how the space influences the arrangement of the work.

10. Consider how the arrangement of the work influences the space.

11. Go around as many more times as you can. (You'll notice new things each time.)

12. Before you leave, find a particular favorite place within the installation. Stand there and take it all in once more.

  1. I like your take on the show. As someone who has literally spent hours in the show, finding the points in space and time that reflect in your feelings and memories is a wonderful way to enjoy the experience.
