SECOND FRIDAY TO MARCH 20

More added since Wednesday's post

JamesBrinsfield_ActionJackson(dolphin 3-12)

James Brinsfield, "Action Jackson," oil & enamel on canvas, 82" x 60", 2010, is part of the artist's first solo exhibition at the Dolphin gallery, opening March 12 from 5 to 10 p.m. "Sky Way" will be on view through May 8, along with Jim Leedy's "Cosmos" and work by Nate Fors, Judith Sanazaro, and Aaron Storck. Review has added images and listings since the last calendar post on Wednesday. Anyone who missed the opening at UCM's Gallery of Art & Design should regret not meeting up with the stranded pilot in his ice hut during Davin Watne's The Long Winter. Work by Queens-based Lisa Iglesias and a group exhibition of mid-/mid-southern American artists, Joey Borovicka, Sam King, Kristin Musgnug, and Stephanie Pierce are worth a drive to Warrensburg to see in person.

Tonight, a solo exhibition by Barry Anderson opens at Review Studios Exhibition Space, and the Dolphin in the West Bottoms opens three exhibitions. Other events are happening in Midtown (Nelson and Kemper) and in Kansas City, Kansas, where it is Second Friday Artwalk night.

Crystal Avila, "The Dark Shadow," (grade 10, Wyandotte High School, Kevin Edwards, teacher) is part of more than 200 two-dimensional and 40 three-dimensional works on display at four galleries in Kansas City, Kansas, open for Second Friday Artwalk. "Yearly the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools host a student art show entitled "Beyond the Classroom." Student work is professionally matted and framed, featured in an art show, then distributed to area businesses to hang for the duration of the calendar year. In January those works are gathered, the art is removed from the frames, new art is matted and displayed in the same frames, and the cycle goes on." 7 Variations On You Can't Always Get What You Want
Santiago Cucullu with Martin Ayos
"Milwaukee-based artist Santiago Cucullu's large-scale installation transforms the Art Center's Education Wing through sprawling vinyl graphics, a series of illuminated commercial signs, and audio recordings. Based on the artist's collaboration with Buenos Aires writer and poet Martin Ayos, Cucullu's multi-faceted work charts the psychological and physical wanderings through an ambiguous cityscape. Santiago Cucullu is the first artist to participate in the Art Center's new series of site-specific temporary projects that re-define and challenge the architectural dynamics of the Education Wing."
